Once a teacher/always a teacher

I stumbled across my teacher website, 3 years into my retirement, and was pleasantly surprised at what it offers the aspiring creative. I realized that what elevates creativity for high school students can work for pretty much everyone. Give it a look!

Student Art Journal:

Online teaching wasn’t the ideal conclusion to a career, but many of my students continued their creative explorations through much of the COVID pandemic. It just takes the right prompt—a relevant reason that offers personal growth.

Dowling Teacher Website

While progressing through my teaching career, it became clear to me that a majority of my students needed a reason to divert their attention away from the fact that they were confined, in mind and body, to a school building. The focus of my art curriculum moved away from making show-worthy projects and evolved into one of directing thought to see the potential of what could be. The arena of art education represents a limitless world of imagination play, and my students needed to escape to it. In my student studio setting, consumption gave way to creation, and creation empowered.
