ABOUT making things

When I was a child, my parents allowed me to paint airplanes and landscapes on the basement walls, build dangerously unstable wooden street carts to race down the hill on the next block, and use the family 8mm home movie camera to shoot corny horror flicks. I got lost for days at a time, consumed by the rush of making new things. Summer breaks just flashed by.

Little did I know that I would be given the opportunity to share with others the joy and empowerment of creativity while teaching art at a local high school. It really was a rewarding career, and I want to continue sharing the endless benefits of moving into a creative space, where our unique talents and views of the world are brought into the light for all to see.

There’s something about solving a problem in a new way. Art provides an escape hatch into a more manageable world. It’s a simplified place where I make the rules and where no one else has a say in the matter. Art is empowering.

My hope is for my work to promote a collective 'pause’ in my sphere of influence, so that people consider slowing down, if only for a moment, to notice the beauty around them. That's what art ultimately does, and I think we need more of it.

SHOUTOUT COLORADO interview: “Risk”.

Overcoming the fear of failure is vital for creativity to take flight. SHOUTOUT COLORADO asked me about risk-taking. Click HERE to learn about the need to take risks in whatever you do.

“It’s not so much that I’m conquering the fear of failure,

but more that being true to myself

and what I want to express

has finally outweighed the need for acceptance.”
